Planning a surprise proposal in Malta? Read this first.

From cliffside views to secret garden spots, here’s how I capture the moment without ruining the surprise.

There’s something really special about photographing a surprise proposal. The nerves, the emotion, the reactions that come out so naturally. I’ve had the chance to capture these moments in some of Malta’s most stunning places, and I never get tired of it.

Whether you already have a meaningful spot in mind or need a little help choosing, I’m here to make sure everything goes smoothly and that you’ll have beautiful photos to remember it all.

To keep the surprise 100% intact, we plan everything in advance (timing, location, route, exact Google Maps pin, everything). On the day, I’ll arrive a bit before you and just blend into the scene (maybe taking photos of the landscape, or sitting nearby with my camera on my lap).

There’s no contact between us at the location. Everything is agreed beforehand, so the person you’re proposing to has no idea what’s about to happen.

When the moment starts unfolding, I begin shooting from a distance, then slowly move in to capture close-ups — the emotions, the reaction, the ring. Honestly, most people are so focused on the proposal that they don’t even notice me nearby. It’s like they’re in their own little bubble and that’s exactly how it should feel.

How a Surprise Proposal Photoshoot Actually Works

My Favourite Proposal Locations in Malta

Over time, I’ve discovered a few places that just work (for the view, the light, the privacy, or the atmosphere). Some of my favourites include:

  • Fomm ir-Riħ – dramatic cliffs and quiet surroundings

  • Miġra l-Ferħa – epic views and perfect sunset light

  • San Anton Gardens – peaceful, elegant, full of charm

  • Mdina streets – golden light and timeless architecture

  • Ġnejna & Għajn Tuffieħa hill – beautiful coastal trails

  • Valletta’s secret gardens – tucked-away spots with a view

However, I’m always open to new places and if you already have somewhere special in mind, that’s where we’ll go. One of my proposals was recently at Il-Kalanka, a quiet, hidden bay at the far end of the island. It was perfect.

Out of all these locations, my absolute favourites are Fomm ir-Riħ and Miġra l-Ferħa. Nothing can beat those views, privacy and open spaces. In fact, most of the images you see in the above galleries are from these 2 places.

Once the moment passes, I usually give you a minute to breathe and take it all in. Then we go for a short walk in the area to get some natural couple portraits while the emotions are still fresh.

My style is always the same: no stiff posing, no awkward direction. I give you prompts that create movement, connection, and candid moments. We’ll also get some beautiful shots of the ring while we’re at it.
